Mid-Term PBL

Instead of the typical mid-terms, we are doing something different at WFC.

In my classes, your student will be creating a visual presentation. They will present their visual in place of the traditional mid-term.

In US History, students will examine and present the causes of the Civil War. Then they will research which one of these is causing the most conflict in 2015

In Modern Global, students will research inventions from the late 1800’s to the early 1900. Then decide on five important inventions, focusing on the one that has had the greatest impact.

The fitness and nutrition class is producing a visual presentation for their fellow students on the danger of the club drug MDMA (Molly.)

And finally, the civics students are to create a presentation on the five most important  news stories of 2015.

Ask them how they are doing?  Ask them what they are doing?

WFC Blood Pressure Readings

Healthy Blood Pressure: More than 120 over 80 and less than 140 over 90 (120/80-140/90)

We decided to do this project to provide a visual representation of healthy a blood pressure. Students got the chance to experience taking their blood pressure and learned about what the different numbers indicate. They even got a chance to graph their results over a certain period of time.

It’s important for students to understand the importance of having a healthy blood pressure.

High blood pressure can lead to cardiac arrest, or stroke. An unhealthy blood pressure can also cause an aneurysm, affect kidney function, heart failure, or eventually can lead to blindness.

What should the Fed Do!

Come on Janet, raise the federal funds rate. It has been near ZERO since December 2008. Leaving it near ZERO handcuffs the Fed in its ability to react to the economy. Unless of course the Fed wants to go below ZERO, Pay banks to borrow money. All is IMHO!

Update: Janet mentions raising the interest rate, Dow Drops over 200 points. Following day, Bureau of Labor Statistics(BLS) releases information with the Unemployment Rate is steady at 5% and number of jobs created 211,000. Dow up 294 points as of 12:45 EST.

Long Lost Cousin

Korean PeninsulaThat is how I got the name of my blog!  Also Timbabwe, Timboslice.

Tour of North Korea, courtesy of The Guardian. Some pictures and a video of Pyongyang. Some extremely limited helicopter tour shown via the following link:

The pictures seem to resemble an artist’s/architect’s rendering of what a project will look like. Watch for lack of people walking around and lack of cars on the roads. Although, there is a picture with a couple of what looks like to be passenger trains.
